Taking care of your Jewels

Antonio Bernardo is very serious about the quality of the jewels he creates, and offers his clients all the support necessary for their maintenance and care. Therefore, as well as the usual precautions you should take when wearing each item, our stores are at your service to advise you on professional procedures which are necessary so as to guarantee that your jewel is always in its finest condition.

Taking care of your Gold Jewels

Antonio Bernardo creates jewels with 18k Yellow Gold, Pink Gold and White Gold. In all of them the percentage of Pure Gold (75%) is maintained.
Clean your jewel with a soft brush under running water and dry it with a soft paper tissue.
If the result is not yet satisfactory, bring your jewel to one of our stores for a professional assessment.
For jewels with diamonds, pearls or other organic gems, follow the instructions described below.

Taking care of your Silver Jewels

The silver alloy used in the jewels Antonio Bernardo is the internationally known Sterling Silver – 925, which means it is 92,5% pure silver.
Clean your jewel with a soft brush under running water and dry it with a soft paper tissue.
If the result is not yet satisfactory, bring your jewel to one of our stores for a professional assessment.

OXIDAtion

Silver and copper (a metal which is present in most gold alloys) in contact with air undergo a chemical phenomenon called oxidation, which may alter the jewel’s original color.
This variance does not express any change in the alloy’s quality or percentage. It’s a natural and superficial transformation, which occurs in higher or lower intensity for reasons as diverse as the proximity to the sea, the skin’s PH, or how the jewel has been stored.

Taking care of your Diamond jewels

The beauty of a diamond lies in its shine, clarity and in the “fire” of reflected colors, properties that will be better appreciated if adequate instructions for cleaning and storing are followed.
Diamonds should always be cleaned after being handled, being lightly scrubbed with a soft brush, warm water and soap.
Also, although a diamond’s distinguishing trait is its hardness, it must be protected from impacts and contact with other diamonds, so that the gem is not broken or scratched.
You should, therefore, store each diamond jewel separately.

Taking care of your Pearls and other Organic Gems

Pearls need special maintenance when being handled. Their contact with perfumes and creams, for example, should be avoided. Pearl jewels should not be in contact with water.
Avoid contact between pearls and other jewels and, when handling a pearl jewel, we recommend you hold it by a metal part.
Pearls should be cleaned with a soft, wet cloth, never using any kind of brush.

Jewels with gemstones or pearls on threads

We recommend that jewels with gemstones or pearls on threads be rethreaded once a year, and if used regularly, they be rethreaded every 6 months.
